RED RUMPED PARROTS
Another ground dwelling bird on South Lakes Golf Course is the Red-Rumped Parrot. These beautiful medium sized birds are sometimes difficult to spot but are a very lively addition to the fairways at South Lakes.
Red-Rumped parrots are easily identified by the vivid emerald-green plumage of the males and the subtle olive tones of the females. The male’s namesake red patch sits just above the tail, catching the sunlight as they flit about in small flocks.
Red-Rumped Parrots prefer open grassy areas, where they forage for seeds and grains, often seen feeding quietly on the ground or perched low in shrubs. Their soft, melodious twittering adds a gentle background note to the chorus of birdlife along the course, making them a favourite among birdwatchers and golfers alike.
