WILLY WAGTAIL
The Willy Wagtail is one of Australia’s most recognisable and charismatic small birds, often spotted flitting about open spaces such as fairways, gardens and parks. These charming little birds will often accompany you as you walk down the fairways here at South Lakes.
Willy Wagtails are renowned for their energetic foraging, and you will see them darting after disturbed insects as you push your golf buggy up the fairway. Despite their small size, Willy Wagtails are bold and inquisitive, frequently seen chasing much larger birds away from their territory.
Black above with a striking white belly and eyebrow, its cheerful tail-wagging habit gives the bird its common name. Their call is a chattering, scolding sound but these adaptable little birds are a delightful presence around South Lakes.
