AVOCETS and STILTS

Careful observers will often spot Avocets and Stilts around the samphire rimmed lake on the left side of the 1st fairway. As you prepare for your shot towards the green, take a look around the edge of the lake and see if you can spot these elegant looking birds.

Avocets and stilts are wading birds, easily recognised by their long, slender legs and distinctive bills. Avocets stand out with their upturned bills and distinctive brown-and-white plumage, while stilts are black-and-white and are known for their exceptionally long, pink legs and delicate bodies.

Both species frequent shallow wetlands, gliding gracefully through the water as they forage for aquatic insects and small invertebrates. Their graceful movements and striking appearance make them a delight for birdwatchers at South Lakes Golf Club.
