South Lakes Golf Club is located on South Australia\u2019s south coast amid some of the State\u2019s most unique and significant landscapes. These landscapes include high energy beaches with their complex coastal dune ecosystems, the calming waters of the Lower Lakes with the glorious Goolwa Channel, gentle rural pastures leading into the picturesque Southern Mount Lofty Ranges and of course the Murray Mouth with the International RAMSAR listed Coorong. These diverse landscapes, shaped by freshwater and coastal influences, support an extraordinary array of fauna and flora.<\/p>\n
With its gentle undulating fairways, South Lakes Golf Club sits at the very centre of this remarkable area. But beyond its manicured greens, coastal scrub gives way to tall woodland and many tranquil lakes with reeds and paperbarks to provide a safe haven and a corridor for a chorus of native birds. Given its special location, it is really no surprise that 88 different birds have been recorded on South Lakes Golf Course. This number is still growing as a further 40 odd species have been recorded in nearby areas.<\/p>\n
Of all the species in the area, none is more special to South Lakes than the Australian Pelican. Whether they are seen gliding serenely on the tranquil lakes or soaring in graceful formation overhead, these majestic birds are emblematic for South Lakes Golf Club.<\/p>\n
